Stranded? Resourceful? Competitive? Welcome to Build-A-Boat: Castaway Challenge — the ultimate hands-on team adventure where creativity, engineering, and pure imagination collide. Inspired by the stranded-but-spirited crew of Gilligan’s Island, this activity challenges teams to design, build, decorate, and pitch their very own person-powered cardboard boat — using nothing but limited supplies, teamwork, and earned resources.

Teams will complete a series of photo, video, trivia, and problem-solving missions using iPads and our interactive gamification platform, BridgeTheApp. Every challenge earned equals more materials — from cardboard panels and duct tape to paint, paddles, and decorative add-ons. Once construction begins, teams divide and conquer: builders assemble the vessel, artists brand the boat, and marketing minds prepare a spirited cheer and live “brand reveal.” In true island-survivor fashion, no boat launches without celebration! When time is up, teams present their masterpiece, nominate a Skipper, perform their team cheer, and — if water access allows — put their creation to the ultimate test: Does it float? Can it race? Or does it gloriously sink? Either way, the laughs, creativity, and shared experience make this challenge unforgettable.

This event is high-energy, wildly interactive, and perfect for groups who love friendly competition, hands-on building, and memorable teamwork. Whether the boats sail or sink, your team will leave with camaraderie, confidence, and stories that will be retold for years.

Event Flow

1. Welcome, Crew Assignment & Icebreaker

• Participants arrive and are welcomed into a whole “castaway mindset,” complete with a theme intro.
• A quick icebreaker gets everyone loosened up, laughing, and ready to compete.
• Teams form, select roles, and receive a brief overview of boat-building rules and goals.

2. iPad Challenge Launch & Resource Hunt

• Each team receives an iPad® loaded with the BridgeTheApp™ platform.
• Teams earn points (and boat supplies!) by completing a series of photo, video, and trivia challenges.
• The faster and smarter the team performs, the better their materials stash — cardboard sheets, tape, paddles, paint, and upgrades.

3. Build, Brand & Cheer

• The clock starts — construction begins!
• Roles naturally form:
  • Builders engineer the hull, reinforce seams, and test stability
  • Artists/Designers paint logos, attach flags, and name the boat
  • Performers/Marketing Team write the cheer, prepare the pitch, and create hype
• Teams must finish AND make their boat presentable before time expires.

4. Boat Reveal, Skipper Selection & (Optional) Water Test

• One team member is appointed Skipper — the official pilot for the ceremonial launch or race.
• Each group presents their boat, performs their cheer, and pitches why they deserve victory.
• If water is available: test float, test paddle, or full race!
  • Categories may include: Fastest Boat, Most Creative Design, Most Likely to Sink, Best Team Spirit

5. Awards, Photos & Wrap-Up

• Judges tally points and present themed awards & medals.
• Epic group photo with all vessels (floating or flopped) marks the finale.
• Teams leave energized, bonded, and proud — proof that with teamwork, even cardboard can conquer the sea.
