Bridge The Gap is a large-group, hands-on team-building experience that blends creativity, collaboration, and engineering with a thrilling finale. Working in sub-teams, participants design and build individual bridge sections using only cardboard and duct tape, each representing the organization’s future goals, values, or aspirations. Powered by BridgeTheApp, teams complete interactive challenges to earn materials and advantages before assembling their sections into one unified bridge. The event culminates in an exciting destruction-and-stress test, in which the bridge is tested for strength, stability, and teamwork under pressure.

Event Flow

1. Welcome, Theme Intro & Icebreaker

• Participants are welcomed by an energetic facilitator and introduced to the Bridge The Gap challenge
• A large-group icebreaker sets the tone for collaboration and friendly competition
• The group learns the ultimate goal: build a bridge strong enough to support the team—and survive the test

2. App Launch & Resource Challenge

• Teams receive iPads® loaded with BridgeTheApp
• Teams complete photo, video, trivia, and problem-solving challenges
• Points earned unlock:
  • Cardboard and duct tape quantities
  • Structural upgrades or reinforcements
  • Decorative and branding elements
    • Faster, smarter teams gain a strategic edge

3. Design, Roles & Section Build

• Sub-teams are assigned individual bridge sections
• Roles are delegated, such as:
  • Cutters & engineers
  • Column and support designers
  • Builders and assemblers
  • Decorators and brand storytellers
    • Teams work under tight deadlines to balance creativity, stability, and alignment with the larger structure

4. Cross-Team Coordination & Assembly

• Periodic check-ins ensure all sections align in height, width, and connection points
• Once complete, all sections are assembled into one unified bridge
• Final adjustments and reinforcements are made before testing

5. Bridge Reveal & Photo Moment

• The completed bridge is unveiled to the full group
• Teams celebrate their work and take photos on or beside the structure
• Judges may award points for creativity, teamwork, and design

6. The Ultimate Test: Stress & Destruction Challenge

• The bridge faces a controlled series of tests, which may include:

• • Weight and load testing (team members step onto the bridge in stages)

  • Simulated “stress conditions” such as shaking or airflow
  • Points are awarded for:
    • Structural integrity
